aphobia is not just harmful to asexual people. it hurts everyone when society tells people they are not complete without a romantic partner. that they are aren’t a whole person if they aren’t in love and sexually desirable. people spend some of the most fulfilling parts of their lives feeling like they’re wasting that time because they aren’t in a relationship. they spend so much time looking for “the one”. time that could be spent learning, travelling, building a found family. they miss out on meaningful relationships, on soulmates, because they are told that person can’t be the most important person in their life. it devalues the support that’s found in community, it devalues the love found in friendships, it devalues the importance for living for oneself.
will type it up in full later but found out yesterday my boyfriend a) did not know (most) saints were actual real human beings b) thought mother theresa was fictional c) actually thought this about a LOT of famous historical figures including tutankhamen and albert einstein
Has he never seen photographs of Einstein that he knew were supposed to be Einstein (or other widely-photographed historical figures) or did he think they were images of an actor or something? Did he say what works he thought any of the historical-figure characters were from?
long story short he thought anybody who had made an appearance in tv shows/cartoons (he saw einstein in a cartoon) was not real because television isn’t real and people on tv aren’t real unless it’s reality tv or the news
long story long:
rhys: you know st. enoch right
me: yeah. wait. the place (in glasgow) or like… the actual saint
r: what saint
me: saint… enoch?
r: there’s a saint enoch?
me: what did you think it was named after. like. patron saint of glasgow
r: no that’s saint mungo
me: right yeah my bad. saint mungo’s mum
r: wait saints have mothers?
me: …yes? last i checked people do tend to have mothers
r: wait saints are PEOPLE?
me: …yes? they just get canonised for doing miraculous shit?
r: they aren’t like. made-up divine beings like angels?
me: uh….. no? some of them probably weren’t real but like. mother theresa was definitely real she was LITERALLY still alive when we were kids
r: MOTHER THERESA WAS REAL?!
me: did you…. think she wasn’t
r: i thought people made her up!
me: dude she died in like. 1997
r: what was she canonised for then
me: like. helping poor sick people mostly
r: oh like florence nightingale
me: i mean not a saint but yeah
r: WAIT WAS FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE ALSO REAL
me: …is this a bit are we doing a bit right now. yes she was a real nurse in the crimean war
r: what but that was like 4 years ago
me: the FIRST one
r: oh
me: you thought she was fictional?
r: yeah like sherlock holmes. wait he’s not real right
me: yeah no sherlock is fictional
r: i thought tutankhamen was fictional until like… 2009
me: what why
r: well like the curse of tutankhamen shit. curses aren’t real so he wasn’t either
me: no he was definitely real
r: i thought einstein was fictional
me: ………..
r: i first saw him in a cartoon! those aren’t real! people on tv aren’t real! when did you first learn he wasn’t made up? you’re acting like it’s weird to think he’s not real
me: i mean like… i literally never thought he was fictional
r: i thought dickens wasn’t real until i read one of his books in school.
me: okay but like you know queen victoria was real right
r: yeah
me: okay good because there was like. a whole doctor who thing with her
r: that aired after we did a whole unit on the victorians at school
me: did you find out dickens was real before or after you studied victorians
r: ……..
me: it was after wasn’t it
r: ……yeah@learnorlose are you real can you confirm
I hate how 3 pm is so close to 2 pm so there’s an illusion that there’s still time left in the day to do things but in reality 3 pm is also close to 4 pm and if it’s close to 4 pm you might as well just wait till tomorrow. <- can’t argue against this by the way.

the “humans are inherently selfish” fanclub can genuinely and in all honesty go to hell. i once came back from a school yard where the kids had heaped piles of leaves and cut wildflowers on a narrow strip of grass bc a bee had died. i actually want to cry.
when i was a child, my parents told me our houseplant would die of lack of sunlight. i was so young i don’t even remember this, but apparently, my response to this was starting to carry the plant around like an emotional support stuffed animal. whenever my family went outside i would hold the pot on my head to make it reach the sun better. i wasn’t in school yet, didn’t have any exposure to the lessons on caring they give in elementary, i don’t remember my thought process - but i can guess. kids integrally care about things, even tiny bugs and inanimate plants. humans care.
don’t let them beat it out of you
